At any given time, our Restoration Team works on several projects simultaneously. For historical and archival purposes, our HIW photographer diligently takes pictures during the restoration and documents the various processes each machine is being put through. We have compiled the photos in a photo gallery for each machine. We hope you enjoy them.

Standing presses for case-bound books were everywhere at one time. Many designs and types, both in iron and wood, were made in USA and Europe. Large book printing firms could have as many as 20 to 30 of them.
Our Frech-built wood standing book press featured here came to us in a terrible state, having seen more than a century of heavy use and having gone through numerous temporary repairs and patches during its life of service. Suffered from decays and unrestorable splits, the wood was replaced, pedestrian style base was replaced with a custom made metal base modeled after the appropriate style of the period, the massive screw main post and all metal features were polished to a beautiful shine.
