Amos Paul Kennedy, Jr., a self-taught artist, made a significant career shift to letterpress printing after discovering his passion at nearly forty years old. His journey led him to pursue an MFA in graphic design at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he honed his craft. Today, he is the proud owner of Kennedy Prints!, a renowned letterpress printshop in Detroit.
Kennedy's exceptional work has earned recognition from esteemed platforms like Hyperallergic, The New York Times, and The Economist. His art has been prominently displayed in exhibitions at prestigious venues nationwide, including Poster House, the Brooklyn Public Library, and the libraries of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Inspired by proverbs and quotes, Kennedy's prints and posters exude a unique blend of social commentary, folk art, and graphic design, challenging conventional artistic norms. His bold style, characterized by impactful typography and vibrant colours, reflects influences from the Civil Rights Era and Black Nationalism, showcasing a deep connection to Black identity.
