Hoe was the largest maker of printing presses, renowned for its newspaper presses which were the workhorse in most national & world dailies in the late 19th & early 20th centuries. For the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, on the request of the US Patent Office, Hoe commissioned a working model of their Sextuplet Web Press to be shown at the Expo.

Composed of 16,000 pieces, the model was to illustrate the 36 US patents taken out by Hoe. The model was built complete to the most minute detail and constructed with such care and accuracy that it actually printed, folded and delivered papers.
